The challenge

Context

The tattooist needed a distinctive web presence that communicated his artistic style from the first visit. A significant share of potential clients arrives from Instagram and other social media, making the mobile experience and load speed top priorities.

The main challenge was creating a contemporary and distinctive visual proposition that put tattoo photographs at the centre, without sacrificing performance or mobile usability.

Image-heavy pages can become slow without careful handling. The design needed to reflect the artist's identity faithfully without relying on generic builders that would limit visual expression.

The solution

A portfolio website was developed with Astro, using static generation to maximise performance from the first load, especially on mobile.

The work gallery takes the leading role. Images are served in optimised formats with lazy loading. The typography and visual composition were designed specifically to communicate the artist's identity.

Navigation is simple and intuitive for visitors arriving from social media, with direct access to the studio's contact channels.

Technical approach

Astro static architecture

Pages are generated at build time as optimised HTML, minimising client-side JavaScript and simplifying deployment.

Reusable components

The portfolio structure is built with Astro components that make maintenance and adding new work straightforward.

Image optimisation

Gallery images are served in modern formats with lazy loading to reduce load times on mobile.

Adaptive CSS layout

CSS Grid and Flexbox for visual and adaptable portfolio layouts without UI framework dependencies.

Mobile-first design

The experience is designed mobile-first, as the primary device for visitors arriving from social media.

Semantic structure

Semantic HTML with a clear heading hierarchy and basic metadata for search engines.

Outcome

The resulting website provides a fast and visually strong presentation of the artist's work across all devices. Astro's static generation keeps load times low even with an image-heavy gallery, and the distinctive design reinforces the studio's professional identity compared to generic solutions in the sector.
